App Attack!

AM Session: Apps for Communication
PM Session: Apps for Education
Everywhere you look now, people are talking about iPads and iPods. How can we use them with students in the classroom? How can we use them for people in the community for communication? How can we harness the power of this exciting new technology to better meet the needs of people with disabilities?
Join us Wednesday, October 5, 2011 for this exciting, fast paced look into the world of everything App! Bring your own device and share resources you have been using or download the apps highlighted in the workshop. Don’t have an iPad or iPod? No problem – we will have a limited number of devices to trial during the workshop.
We will walk you through the options available for using the iPad and iPod for everything from:
- Communication
- Task Reminders
- Writing
- Reading
- Social Stories
Wednesday, October 5, 2011 will be divided into two (2) half day sessions, each focusing on a specific area. Resources will be provided for each session and an interactive web site will be developed to continue the learning even after the presentation.
From 9 to 11:30 a.m., we'll present Apps for Communication. This half day workshop will focus on apps that can be used to facilitate communication. These can be everything from simple text to speech – all the way to a full featured augmentative communication app. While certain apps will be highlighted, our experienced staff will also discuss strategies and best practices to make sure the features of these apps meet the needs of the consumer.
The afternoon session, Apps for Education, will go from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and will focus on apps to assist students in the classroom. People have been exploring the possibility of using the iPad and iPod to replace computers in the classroom. Come experience available apps and discover the possibilities. Using the examples of available apps, our experienced staff will also highlight the low tech to high tech continuum of assistive technology supports and areas that these devices could benefit students.
Bring a Friend or Co-Worker and SAVE!
Cost is $59 per session. Attend both for only $99. Come with a co-worker or friend and save even more. Registrations for two or more participants save 15%. Pay only $50 each for a half-day session and only $84 each for the full day.
LOCATION: the App Attack workshops will be presented at Advancing Opportunities' main office: 1005 Whitehead Road Extension, Suite 1, Ewing, NJ 08638.
