Three Steps to More Effective Telephone Calls

1. Use a hands-free headset. Freeing up both hands for typing or writing while you are on the phone allows for better note taking.

2. Write down your talking points before you dial. List all of the information you want to convey or receive during the call. Draft an outline of the conversation you want to have. Avoid writing yourself a script; you’ll sound more natural.

3. Smile. When you smile, the tone of your voice changes. It gets lighter and sounds more friendly. It will also help you remain upbeat and positive.
