Augmentative Communication Specialist
Debi McKenzie recently joined the Advancing Opportunities team as an Augmentative Communication Specialist. She graduated with her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Washington University in 2005. She is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association and holds licensure in New Jersey.
Prior to joining the Advancing Opportunities team, Debi worked at a private school in Southern New Jersey for students with multiple disabilities. While working in the school setting, she had the opportunity to focus on providing therapy to students with a variety of disabilities and special needs including blind and low vision.
Debi learned to incorporate recommendations based on evaluations by team members, including Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, to better meet the needs of her students. Debi has worked in various treatment settings including schools, homes, day programs, hospitals, and community based programs. She provides evaluations and trainings for consumers as well as their family, staff, and teachers in the Southern half of New Jersey.
