Cody R. Kirchner

Assistive Technology Specialist

Cody Kirchner was blinded at the age of 3 by retina cancer. The son of a member of the United States Coast Guard, he moved around frequently; from Oklahoma, to Michigan, To Florida, to Georgia. He attended the Colorado Center for the Blind, where he gained his independence and self confidence as a blind person, and received his certification in Unified English Braille. A job prospect took him to New Jersey where he taught Braille for a time, then began teaching assistive Technology at Advancing Opportunities.

He has a guide dog, Dodge; a yellow labrador who takes him everywhere he wishes to go. He plays on both the New Jersey Thunder state goalball team, the New Jersey Lightning beep baseball team, and the Phillidelphia Fire beep baseball team. He constantly advocates for blind people to become more physically active and athletic. 

Cody is a passionate advocate for blind equality and dignity in all aspects of life, and strives to exemplify that in his work with the blind of all ages. Cody is currently an AT Specialist working in northern NJ.  He is NCUEB Certified, and Jaws Certified.
